What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathic Physicians are trained to be primary care doctors however many naturopathic physicians are consulted when patients are seeking a different approach or suffer from a chronic condition. Naturopathic medicine emphasizes prevention and the self-healing process through the use of healthy living and natural therapies, blending centuries-old knowledge and a philosophy that nature is the most effective healer with current research on health and human systems. Your naturopathic physician will addresses the root cause of illness and disease. She combines evidence-based medicine with natural therapies and techniques to diagnose and treat acute and chronic health conditions. One of the main goals of Naturopathic Medicine is to treat the whole person through diet, nutrition and exercise with the goal of sustaining good health and preventing illness.

What if I have a MD?

That is just fine! Most of the patients that we see have both a Naturopathic Doctor and a Medical Doctor.  We believe in honest, open collaboration with all health care providers involved in a patient’s life, to ensure the best care and choice for each patient. Having a team of qualified practitioners is a good idea.

Typical Visits

Your first appointment will be 60-90 minutes.  At this time due to COVID we are only doing telemedicine visits.

Subsequent appointments will be from 15-45 minutes in length depending on whether you have a complicated concern or are just reviewing labs.  Typically during the initial visits, Dr. Oldfield will take a detailed history of your current and past health concerns, conduct a physical exam and review or order laboratory tests to make an assessment or diagnosis.  Dr. Oldfield will write up a personalized treatment plan at each visit.  The number of visits you will require depends on how complicated your case is, how much support a you need in making changes, and how quickly your body responds to the implemented changes.

Please arrive 15 minutes early if you have not already filled out the patient assessment form.  If you have coverage under an extended health care plan, please ensure that you bring this information with you.
